Welcome to Boston!
Boston,
one of America’s oldest cities, serves as the gateway to New England, its
history as the “cradle of liberty” stemming from the famed Boston Tea Party
and other turmoil leading up to the American Revolution. Once considered
ultra-conservative, Boston has developed a progressive culture and attitude,
while keeping close ties to heritage and tradition within a new world context.
Greater Boston, with 50-some colleges and universities, is awash in students,
further assuring non-stodgy ambiance.
Architectural treasures include lovely brownstones on cobblestone streets, and authentic gas lights light the way in many neighborhoods. From culinary hot-spots to an abundance of historic buildings, parks, cemeteries and other landmarks combined with newer attractions, the city boasts endless opportunity for exploration. Water
plays a big role in this seaport city, and Boston's parks, like its boat
rides and other waterfront activities, provide respite from urban frenzy.
Boston Common, America’s oldest park, anchors a miles-long stretch known
as the "Emerald Necklace." Boston is comparatively easy to navigate by foot,
ferry, and its “T” subway.
